Short Entry

Monday, June 23, 2008

Went jogging at 6:17PM today. Horrible experience. I had a heavy lunch which ended up at 3:45PM. I thought all the food was digested. To my amazement, after the jogging and resting for 15 darn minutes, I ran to my room's toilet just to release some fragments of lunch from my mouth.

Important lesson learnt...never have a heavy lunch before a run...

Lord of the Rings Special

Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Recently, Channel 5 announced that it will be showing the whole LOTR Trilogy on the television. Watching those commercials touched the very bottom of my heart. It reminded me when I was back in Primary School, I had no idea why this trilogy itself gained a lot of recognition. So I decided to watch the last and final chapter of the trilogy in the cinemas. I watched a little from part one but not part two so I had a rough idea what this movie is going to be.

To put it simple, it's a story of courage, trust, hope and loyalty but it was depicted in an epic manner that no one, I repeat again, no one could have done it except for Peter Jackson. I admire a lot of characters from the film, especially for Frodo Baggins. Though he is a small little creature, he wasn't corrupted and has led an innocent sweet life until he was thrown into this perilous adventure which altered his life forever. Making a lot of friends along the way, this adventure could not be complete without the Fellowship of the Ring because everyone's decisions mattered.

It was a cinematic masterpiece from the start to the end. What stood out to me was the music which blended in so damn well with the picture. The acting from the ensemble cast was excellent, delivering the best they ever done before. Every touch to the character, the visual effects, the background was personal. I was simply blown away by these movies. There were a few gold moments in the last chapter. A few shots and scenes made me teared up a little.

I ain't a crybaby, for your info. It's like you watched your darling little babies grow up and you were there all along. And when they finally did, you can't help but cry. That's what I felt when I watched it. Yes I'm emotional because I always connect with the characters in the film.

These films could be the worst fantasy movies you ever watched. Fantasy movies are usually meant to entertain with its visual effects and acting are supposed to be sub-par. However, Director Peter Jackson brought a lot of wonderful colours to this painting. Wonderful colours are not enough, you must have the vision and the tone set in mind, which Jackson surprisingly achieved it. I take my hats off to you, really I do. By the way, it is the film that inspires me to be a film-maker.

A special mention to the composer, Howard Shore. He has composed a score so extraordinary, so iconic. I, for one, don't really know what movies has he scored but I have to say, besides my favourite Michael Giacchino, he has done a marvelous job on these 3 films.

Beautiful, simply too beautiful...

Hahaha I'm sorry if I'm geeking out too much...

Story-Telling!(4)

Monday, June 16, 2008

You can't say I always wanted to pay a visit to Changkat Changi Band, not that I hate you guys there, but it's something I find that is little importance to me. However, Epiphany is coming real soon later this week and so I thought maybe it's time to visit CCSS Band for a while. So I gathered Wei Jie and James to go together. Unfortunately, Shaun and Farhan couldn't join us.

Apparently the Band had changed rooms with some other CCA group then we ended up in some kind of dance room. When we first arrive in the room, after we greeted Mr Pisit, he told us "Later you go through the pieces with the percussion ok?". All of us were quite surprised because we only came to visit, not to tutor them. Hmm...Maybe this is what friend players do? So we agreed to help out. They were playing La Macarena, arranged by Sir. Great saxophone solo by Sir, by the way. It was a great experience because it opened my eyes to different band's culture.

Later on, Su Juen asked me and James whether want to go to Swee Lee to buy some shakers. Why not? So Su Juen met us at the MRT Station and off we went on the train. We reached Bugis and walked quite a while where we arrived at Swee Lee. It was an amazing place filled with a lot of exotic and exquisite instruments. Honestly, it's actually more amazing than Yamaha. Thanks Su Juen for bringing us there!

Later we headed down to Popular Shop to do some window-shopping. I was wandering on my own and found myself in CD-Rama 2 floors above and browsed through other discs. James was hungry after a while so we went to some Bugis Mall to eat KFC. We were actually pondering over, KFC or Pastamania or Yoshinoya. I had myself a chicken wrap, James had Zinger Burger and not-hungry Su Juen, who at first declined the second piece of chicken, had 2-piece Chicken Meal.

Lastly, after going through Bugis Street, we took a bus down to Esplanade where we hung out at the library. Su Juen and James were going through some Ensemble pieces and Marimba duets while I was sitting alone, trying to sort out my clouded mind. After borrowing some pieces to try out, we went to the roof top where many people were there to relax and have fun with their friends. After buying some drinks and snacks, we played Truth or Dare on the roof itself. Hmm...You can say that I uncovered some shocking truths about Su Juen and James. We continued playing at the MRT Station at City Hall where we met Sir's tutor and we said "Hi" to him.

I'm so sorry what happened today Su Juen and James. I didn't mean to be an asshole for not talking. It's not emo ok? If I emo, I would tell my problem to you guys already. I would be like a sobbing child, but I wasn't today. It was like what James said, outcast. Then from this thought leads to another then to another. In short, it was my imagination running wild. Aye you can't really blame me, it is in my director personality. I like imaginations running wild, thinking of possibilities that could happen but in this case, it was the wrong usage. From the thoughts, it affects my mood. Hey I'm a musician right? If musicians are not emotional, they can go to hell already. So I'm really sorry what happened...Next time when it happens, I'll try to do an emotional check on myself. And remind me too! Thanks!

So that's all for today...It's 1:11am according to my watch. Bye bye...Hope tomorrow's practice is a great joy..

Abomination of Memories

Sunday, June 15, 2008

I just caught a screening of The Incredible Hulk just hours ago. Apparently, it's a re-make from the horrible Ang Lee's "Hulk" back in 2003. Eric Bana, not Banner, has been replaced by Edward Norton, who, in my opinion, makes a better Bruce Banner than Bana. It's a cool movie by the way. The makers decided to hell with the scientific explanation by doing a short montage clips of what happened to the genius scientist, Bruce Banner. It has three major fight scenes with the Normal Blonsky, Super Soldier Blonsky then followed by the Abomination. I don't know, I seem to like Edward Norton more as an actor after watching this movie.

Okay so anyway, I was rewinding back to the past when I was in Sec 2. It contained Happy memories first...then sad ones. I couldn't help remembering it because it all seemed so significant to me...somehow..Life in Sec 2 was super awesome. Juniors, treasure this year a lot because next year it's going to a lot more tougher. To that person, you know who you are, I'm not upset over it anymore, I've looked past it so it wouldn't harm right?? Hopefully...

I was going through one of my friend's blog. Ex(or not, I'm not really sure on this), to be exact. Reading it brought me back to that day when she confessed. Honestly, I wasn't quite surprised but I was delighted. I kind of knew that she was into me somehow for her actions were quite obvious. There's this famous Matrix quote: Everything that has a beginning has an end. Oh yeah, it was an end to our short-lived relationship(?). I still can't quite get the original details. Hello! It was over two years ago, man! What did you expect?

To sum off the night, Marvel Studios has two hits in a row with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk! We get to see wee bit of Xing You's Sec 2 life, which was happy then sad. And the mysterious Ex! *Gasp* Who is that?! Hahaha! It sounds like I'm doing some stupid television show with all the intensity and drama. So long, til next time!

Story-Telling Time!(3)

Coming to school for Band Practices is just so tiring. The process is fun but the result of it causes me to wear out and I'm in no condition to do my homework. Sure I'm happy that I sorted out some of my parts but my studies is at stake here. No I'm not protesting against Band Practices, I just feel I could really use a little bit more time...Who doesn't?

Those little primary school kids are just adorable. Shaun, if you're reading this, I'm not a potential paedophile. The kids were awesome. I conducted the Band on Spongebob Squarepants. Now come to think of it, it was really cool and I'm really honoured by the fact that I'm conducting a piece of one of my favourite cartoon show's music. Thank God, Sir didn't conduct "Colours of the Wind". It's an easy piece of music, it's just that I have to roll the suspended cymbal AND play the glockenspiel. Synchronisation between both hands, playing very different thing. It's more dfficult playing drumset but of course, Su Juen's demo seemed easy. Damn me...

Hope Hui Xian, Shaun and Farhan are having a good time in Vietnam. They do actually, but when they come back, I don't want to imagine...Have a safe flight back to Singapore!

Tomorrow is recruit practice, I've got no choice but to go back because we don't have much people to help out the recruits. Ok so now I got to go. Bye!

Band Day Camp(Day 1)

Monday, June 09, 2008

Haiz...I totally screwed up the whole Band Practice today. I guess we started out on the wrong foot today. Without Shaun and Farhan, it was difficult to tell them to move out and get the right instruments, I guess it's my fault too. Mr Pisit seemed irritated by my unnecessary movements as he gave me some, jokingly, angry looks. I apologised profusely sometimes for barging in and demanding a permission to get our percussion things.

Today my achievements are:
1. Motivating my juniors to work harder, which I think they did. They improved a bit, I hope they can really get their head into the whole Viva La experience.
2. Getting things done on time...they moved their asses a little faster than usual.
3. The grand beginning of Mario song really feels a lot better and we are able to play together better.

And the shitty things are:
1. Losing Percussion 2 scores...I don't understand how can it get lost! LIKE ONE FUCKING WARNING NOT ENOUGH. HAIZ..don't want to harp on it
2. Got scolded by Sir for moving my ass too much for the Mario Song. It's not insulting but hey, I was trying to enjoy myself. And he tells me to enjoy myself but not in this manner...-.-
3. Wei Jie broke the Maracas. I can't believe it, I seriously can't...There is a hole in it. Huan Ting said the wood chipped off.

Yeah, so the good events balances out the bad events. Actually, all these bad events are seriously very..serious. I'd rather write out the whole score, then print out 1 more extra. I do feel fucking guilty. First day of Band Camp without Shaun and Farhan and this shit happens? Come on! We got to pull ourselves together! I don't want to see a lackadaisical Percussion section! I admit, I'm not the smartest and clearest guy there is like Shaun and Farhan but I'm trying very hard to live it up to their expectations of me. I'm so sorry guys...I'm so sorry Su Juen.

Su Juen I know though that you never say anything about the lost scores but I know, you must be feeling damn pissed, or probably very disppointed in us. I'm really sorry, nothing I say maybe couldn't retrieve back the lost scores, but I am willing to copy out the whole score of Percussion II scores if you let me.

Let tomorrow be a new start, let me get off the bed with the right foot. Shaun, Farhan and Alumni, I shall not let you guys down. JIA YOU XING YOU!

Story-Telling Time!(2)

Sunday, June 08, 2008

First thing first...I'm very glad to say that: June Study Camp is finally over!

Basically, the Sec 4s and 5s have to report to school every morning during weekdays for 2 weeks to equip ourselves with more knowledge so we can finish our syllabus on time. Unfortunately for those taking DNT and Art, they have to finish do their coursework in the afternoon on weekdays while the rest of us goes home at 2:30pm. It was definitely tiring for us. The teachers planned some educational trips for us such as visiting the Singapore Botanic Gardens and some various JCs, Polytechnics and NUS.

We went on a trip to Botanic Gardens to discover some "exotic" plants and trees, but only to find ourselves in very damp conditions as it was raining cats and dogs. Some students ran into to get themselves drenched and took photos. I bet tourists must be offended by our rowdy intrusion. I got to take some candid photos of Hafir sleeping, Yu Chao standing beside four recycle bins and more pictures. I never really got to look around the Gardens. I heard that 4E6 completed their journey with Ms Jiang, who organised this activity. All in one, it was a worthless, stupid trip.

I have been thinking why I think so much. That's what people are telling me now. All this thinking are keep me out of the big picture somehow. It's kind of like suicide, shrouding myself in a mist, unable to find my way out and who knows, this might lead to my death. I don't quite know what I'm doing now. I'm thinking of girls, band, Percussion Ensemble, my gay friends (I don't know what happen to both of them, I tried to intervene but I got molested instead...sheesh..), and other problems too...

Anyway, tomorrow I'm having some sort of Band Training Camp so now I'm going to hit the sack. Goodbye!
