80th Academy Awards!
I'm just going to share my views with my readers for next Monday's Oscars Winners
Best Picture Nominees:
Atonement
Juno
Michael Clayton
No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood
My choice: There Will Be Blood
This will be a fight between Coen Brothers' NCFOM and Paul Thomas Anderson's TWBB (Both critics favourite). At the rate that Juno is still earning money at the box office in America, it could be a lethal underdog, so nothing is set til Monday morning.
Best Leading Actor:
George Clooney - Michael Clayton
Daniel Day Lewis - There Will Be Blood
Johnny Depp - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Tommy Lee Jones - In The Valley of Elah
Viggo Mortensen - Eastern Promises
My choice: Daniel Day Lewis
What else can I say? The critics have rated DDL's performance as phenomenal. Even George Clooney has backed away from this challenge. It will surely DDL's year.
Best Leading Actress:
Cate Blanchett - Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Julie Christie - Away From Her
Marion Cotillard - La Vie en rose
Laura Linney - The Savages
Ellen Page - Juno
My choice: Marion Cotillard
Though the critics' favourite is Ellen Page, I have to say it's going to be Marion Cotillard based on the critics' words. Ellen Page still have a lot of years before she wins the award, unless she screws her film-choices. Cate Blanchett might get her award because the Academy owes her one for her past performances...It could be a Martin Scocese all over again.
Best Original Screenplay:
Juno
Lars and The Real Girl
Michael Clayton
Ratatouille
The Savages
My choice: Juno
As much as I want Ratatouille to win, I have to go with Juno. Juno is one this year's best films and the writing is top-notch. Michael Clayton and Lars and The Real Girl are just getting recognition for its writing, that's what I feel.
Best Adapted Screenplay:
Atonement
There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Men
Away From Her
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
My choice: No Country For Old Men
NCFOM has been getting reviews...Well actually it's the writers that are getting so it may not get the best picture award but the best adapted screenplay.
Best Animated Feature: Ratatouille
No doubt it will be Brad Bird's year again but right behind it's paws is the girl from Persepolis. Will Ratatouille win? Or the underdog Persepolis, I seriously don't know. Surf's Up is just lucky to be nominated. It was an enjoyable film but ain't Oscar-worthy.
Best Visual Effects: Transformers
It has been a year of great visual fun, with its SFX raised up another notch, it will be difficult to choose the film with great realistic effects...and I have to say it will be Michael Bay's Transformers. Giant Robots that are so movable and adept at movement, no doubt it will grab the award.
That's all for today, so ciao!
80th Academy Awards is on 24th February, 9am in the morning.
