Harry Potter Review

Friday, July 20, 2007

Yeah, I seemed to be doing more reviews on my blog rather than on my movie blog.

Harry Potter 5 is a blast from the start to the end. From the thrilling opening to the last fight at the Ministry of Mystery, you can say that director David Yates and scriptwriter Michael Goldenberg has turned a 500 pages long boring book into another interesting movie to be added to the Potter franchise.

This movie starts off with Harry being attacked and used magic in a presence of a muggle, his cousin. So this starts off a chain of reactions and now the wizarding world do not believe his words that Voldermort is back. Back at school, he faces unfair treatment, the wetness of his first kiss and as usual...loads of trouble.

This is the best Potter yet. The acting has improved over the couple of movies and it is top-notch. Though Rupert Grint has lesser part in this, he does sure have his moments! Daniel Radcliffe has proved his critics wrong and that his acting chops, are pretty good for once.

Though Briton David Yates and Michael Goldenberg had shred this book and manage to keep it as the shortest running time for the Potter movies, this doesn't mean that he really cut out lots of parts. Sure, some parts may be distorted but the theme remains, which the 4th film failed to do. The new materials are added and old ones are removed, it may seem they killed it, but they had done this adaption the way it should be and it is both remarkable and spell-bounding. Many, however, would disagree, claiming this is snore-fest and it is the weakest of all.

Under Yates' and Goldenberg's tender and loving touch, I can say this is probably one of best films out there, for being adapted to the silver-screen. And hopefully Yates can bring out the best in the next Potter book, Half-Blood Prince. You have my respect, Yates...
